In a regular season filled with many games that were lost in the last moments of games, the Orrville High School boy’s basketball team defeated Smithville 67-65 in overtime. Over came into the tournament as the 10th seed and had to play at the higher seed’s court.
Both teams came out spirited and shooting lights out in the first half. The score was 36-36 at the intermision. It was the 2nd half where Orrville could of taken an advantage in the game, but they just couldn’t make free throws. For the contest, the Riders were 11 of 25 from the charity stripe.
For the Riders the tandem of Marcus Conway and Luke Smith came through big as they scored 24 and 21 points respectively. No shot was bigger than the one Conway made from the baseline with the score tied 64 all. Luke Smith had 3 key blocked shots in the overtime to prevent Smithville from either winning or tying the game.
Next up for Orrville will be the sectional championship at Waynedale. This game will be played on Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
