It was the matchup that basketball fans in Wayne Co. wanted to see. Top seeded Chippewa and 2nd seed Orrville faced off Saturday at Wooster High School with the winner punching a ticket to the Sweet 16 in Division 3. Both teams came in with sparkling records, excited fans and hopes to continue down the tournament trail.
Unfortunately for the Riders, those hopes came to an end at the hands of the Chipps, who jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 62-43 win. It was the 3rd straight year the Riders tournament road ended at the district final.
The loss ended the Riders season with 23 wins and just 3 losses.
Trinniti Hall led the way for the Riders with 15 hard-earned points to go along with 17 rebounds. She finishes her stellar career as the schools 2nd all-time leading scorer with 1558 career points unofficially. She will also graduate as the school’s all-time leader in rebounds and steals.
It was also the final game for 7 other seniors; Molly Dennis, Maddie Summers, Macey Martin, Kiauna McDuffie, Liz Birkbeck, Caroline Preston and Courtney Stiffler.
Congrats on a great season!
