Team strengths: Once again, we return a lot of experience. We have 15 returning letter winners, 11 regional qualifiers, and 4 state qualifiers including three All-Ohioans. It’s always nice to have kids you can count on to score points no matter what meet you’re competing in. We also have solid numbers which should make the competition in practice good which should make everyone work harder making us better and allow us to rest girls as needed throughout the season without giving up a lot of points.
Team weaknesses: We lost some great seniors from last year and they left some big shoes to fill. We have some big holes throughout our lineup but I feel we have the girls who will step up and get the job done. This will be the first time in a long time that we haven’t gone into a season with a proven 1-2 punch in the pole vault. We’ll need one of our young girls to step up to the challenge and be the number two behind Allison Plybon. We’ll also be depending on some new faces to take over spots in the high jump and the sprint relays.
Outlook for the season: Even with graduating a lot of girls from our State Runner-Up team a year ago, the cupboard is far from bare. I feel like we once again have the athletes to make a lot of noise throughout the season and do some amazing things. We as coaches just have to do all we can to keep our girls healthy and find the right lineups to achieve our goals.
Teams to watch: Ashland, Lexington and West Holmes always field great teams. We all have outstanding individual athletes and it’ll come down to who is peaking at the right time and who puts the best lineup on the track on May 15th at Madison.
