In a jammed pack Waynedale High School Gymnasium the enthusiasm and excitement would be hard to describe if you weren’t there. In a game that had 17 lead changes and 13 ties….it took 2 overtimes and a controversial ending for the Golden Bears to win the game by a score of 65-64.
At the end of regulation Luke Smith made a deep 3 pointer at the buzzer to send the game into the first overtime. With Orrville leading by 3 points with 8 seconds remaining when Waynedale made their own 3 pointer at the buzzer to send the game into its 2nd overtime.
At the end of the 2nd overtime Waynedale was bringing the ball down the court when Waynedale’s Brevin Riebe was fouled with 2 seconds left. Riebe made the first free throw to win the game. This foul brought the wrath of Orrville fans as Riebe had driven into the lane and had his back turned to the basket while flipping the ball over his shoulder without any sight to the rim when the whistle was blown. It was a tough ending to a well played game by both teams.
Luke Smith, playing in his final game, was stellar with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Conway was the only other Rider in double figures with 18 points.
