On Wednesday night the quarterfinals of the Division II Canton Sectional tennis tournament resumed. Matches were moved inside to the Hall of Fame Racket Club due to the rain.
Orrville had two singles players competing for a chance to advance to the district tournament next week and to the seeding matches this Saturday.
Claudia Adcock (Orrville) who is the #4 seed defeated Abigail Franks by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Coach Kent Smith comented that “Claudia really had her groundstrokes working for her in this match. The young lady from Canton South just is so consistent that you really have to work the points. Overall, this was one of her most impressive wins of the season.”
Also competing on Wednesday was Abby Adcock. Abby played Irene Norman of CVCA. Irene is the number one seed of the entire tournament. Abby Adcock lost this match 1-6, 1-6. Coach Smith said that “Abby competed well and had a chance to win several other games, but Irene is just so tough. She is the number one seed for a reason and she showed a really solid all-round game.”
Claudia Adcock (singles) will join her doubles teammates MacKenzie Thomas & Sophie Flinner on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Canton’s Weiss Park as they play for seeding positions at the district tournament.
