Orrville Girl’s Tennis Players Advance at Jackson Division II Sectional Tennis Tournament

The Lady Rider tennis team entered the Jackson Division II tournament with the top seeded singles player and doubles team.  After 3 rounds of tennis those players did not disappoint as they all have advanced to Saturday mornings Sectional Semi-Finals and Finals.

Claudia Adcock was the top seed.  Due to seeding she had a bye in the first round.    In round 2 she defeated Lulu Gilbert of Hoban 6-2, 6-1.  Round 3 was a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Haley Hochstetler of Triway.  Then in the quarter finals Claudia defeated Schuyler Crumpler of Canton Central Catholic by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Orrville’s #1 seeded doubles team of Abby and Sydney Adcock also dominated play at doubles.  After receiving a bye in rouind one they took down Cassidy McCarthy & Rebecca Vaber of Hoban 6-0, 6-2.  In round 3 they defeated Abbey Ray & Juliana Colant of Canton Central Catholic by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

Also notcing victories in round 1 was Jenna Rowland and Jayne Wallace in singles, as well as the doubles team of Hailey Copeland & Kayela Radford.

Coach Kent Smith said that “It was really a successful day  for our team.  Everyone won at least one match and our seeded players really looked sharp.  If our players stay focussed and continue to play just as they are, we all feel that they can control their own destiny.”

“We go back to Jackson on Saturday to play 2 more rounds of tennis.  I know the Adcock gang have been looking forward to this for sume time.  After coming off a successful regular season, to start the sectionals so strong is really a credit to the entire team!”
