With the success of the football team, the Orrville Wrestling team started the season short handed at the Wayne Invitational Tournament in Smithville. The Red Rider grapplers competed with just five athletes. Wrestling their first event of the year was Jac Crabtree, Cory Stiffler, Wyatt Zimmerman, Austin Warrick, and Jeremy Bailey. Placing for the Red Riders were Stiffler (2nd), Warrick (3rd), Zimmerman (4th), and Bailey (6th).
Pacing the Red Riders in the 132 pound weight class was 2nd place finisher Cory Stiffler . He battled to a 7-1 record on the weekend, losing a tough finals match against a wrestler from Norton.
Warrick battled tough in his first competition in over a year and finished 3rd. He wrestled to a 6-1 record on the weekend. His only loss occurred in the semi-finals against the eventual champion.
Taking fourth for the Red Riders was Wyatt Zimmerman, who wrestled in the talent filled 138 pound bracket. Wyatt earned a hard fought 5-2 record.
Earning his first placement in a varsity tournament in his career, Jeremy Bailey wrestled through the heavyweight bracket. Jeremy used high scoring techniques that allowed him to earn his first career placement.
Also, wrestling tough for Orrville was Jac Crabtree who gutted out a tough win against his Claymont opponent.
